Community Leaders

In our traditional settings, we have leaders like:

  1. Obå – Yorubå
  2. Sårki – Håuså
  3. Eze – Igbo
  4. Onogie – Ishån
  5. Etsu – Nupe
  6. Ohinoyi – Ebirå

There are other chiefs who support the community heads.

Roles of community leaders

  1. Our community leaders settle disputes.
  2. They promote peace at all times.
  3. They regularly organize community work.
  4. They make sure the community is safe for people living in it.

Qualities of community leaders

Our leaders must be:

  1. Caring
  2. Loving
  3. Wise
  4. Intelligent
  5. Honest
  6. Brave, and
  7. Patient

How we appreciate community leaders and others who do well in the community

  1. We give those awards, prizes, and gifts.
  2. We pay them special visits. For example, some pupils from your school could be selected to visit å good local government chairperson.

Step III: Teacher explains the roles of community leaders

Step IV: Teacher explains the qualities of community leaders

Step V: Pupils make relevant contributions

  1. Mention four qualities of community leaders.
  2. State two ways in which we can reward our community leaders.
